AUTOR: Jesse Tseng i Anna Kup¶ć AFILIACJA: CNRS/Loria i CNRS/Loria/IPI PAN TYTUŁ: An affixal analysis of Polish personal markings in HPSG We will present an HPSG analysis of the past tense in Polish. The most problematic aspect of this construction is the presence of the 1st and 2nd person markings (e)m, (e)"s, "smy, and "scie, which can appear in a variety of positions in the clause. Previous proposals have treated these elements as auxiliary verbs, but this is incompatible with their affixal status. We choose to treat the personal markings as agreement suffixes, selected by the l-form verb. This approach requires the formulation of special mechanisms for introducing, propagating, and discharging the agreement information, incorporating various constraints on phonology, prosody, and word order. The formal analysis developed for the past tense can be extended straightforwardly to the conditional and to the future, the two other constructions in Polish involving l-form verbs.
